    Bft, choosing to change

    Sergio Novello
    Sergio_novello

You are looking through number zero of a strange "communicative object". In Action is not the classic House Organ, conceived and designed for those whose daily life is closely involved with our company.

Rather it is a kind of "two-way mirror", tuned - to borrow the metaphor from our tagline - simultaneously to us and to our main interlocutors: customers, partners, stakeholders...

Why did we give it this name? First of all to express the idea of a dynamic company, engaged in unstoppable daily process of evolution. A company that is a "runner", able to anticipate the market trends thanks to research and the capacity for innovation. Our new "journal" is dedicated to "change as a way of life", as a daily choice and as a way of being a company; today change is indispensable in order to compete and to imagine competing tomorrow in an ever more global and more complicated world. And we believe it is clear to all that in these years Bft has changed both pace and appearance, though always remaining absolutely true to its roots and history.

Our change is accomplished in a renewed and even larger production range; in a consolidated relationship with installers and customers; in a more convinced and tangible presence in means of communication; in activeness and in the growing importance of our branch offices. Above all this experience is lived in different ways by the people who make up a team that is more and more rich in professional skills and talent, characterised by a strong sense of belonging. At all levels.

Like all magazines, ours has a "special issue" too. We thought it fit to dedicate this issue zero - which appears on the occasion of Batimat 2011 - to new communication and to the new Design Language of our products. About this time last year, here in France, we revealed our identity: logo, positioning, poster... Fine. A year later we want to tell you about the development of a path that is not limited to increasing our visibility, but that accompanies, supports and interprets the evolution that involves and will continue to involve the company, intensifying exchanges and interactions between all its components.

Change is, by definition, work in progress.
For us it is above all the prelude and the announcement of further innovations that await both you and us in 2012. It will be a busy year. The macro- and microeconomic scenarios are complex, to say the least. But we believe that in these times of uncertainty a company that believes in its work, in the strength and determination of its people, must have an impulse of pride and plan a new step forward in quality.

    With optimism and... “In Action”.
    W ith all of you.
    Happy reading!

    Design

    Do you speak design?

Management. Control. Safety. Values around which the entire Bft range is developed

A company focussed on passion and team work, a brand synonymous with technologically advanced solutions and excellent performances. Products conceived under the aegis of quality and innovative from the point of view of design. Products that make it easy - and gratifying - to work with Bft.

A revolutionised and revolutionary design that leaves the past behind, strongly confirming the company's position and new identity, the result of a strategy that has once again enabled Btf to become a leader of the market.

A design that hits the nail of the head, stressing aspects such as reliability, performance and safety, interpreting them with forms that are simple to read, yet with a great personality, immediately recognisable. Volumes that speak of innovation and technology through straight lines, linked surfaces, profiles and materials that enhance sturdiness, tactile experience and practical installation.

Functionality and usability are to the fore, protagonists of a new design language that reflects the "soul" of the product and tells a story.

The story of a brand-new Bft.

    Communication

    Bft, communication takes shape.
    And substance.

One year later, the direction is clear: Bft's identity can be recognised in its essentiality, which is minimal and friendly, strict and "welcoming" at the same time.

It is the fruit of a well thought out process, because it was not just a question of planning the graphic restyling of what has become a historic logo, but of interpreting a profound company change in real time and firmly exploiting some of the plus points in Bft's DNA, which had never yet been expressed with the necessary conviction.

The ability to offer advanced technological solutions and the ease of working with Bft: these are two sides of one promise, presented under the motto "Tuned to You" which has now become the company's alternative signature.

Today the company newsletter - directly involving the audience of installers - is integrated with a series of product announcements that reinterpret the format in a more technical key. Bft solutions therefore come out of their box and are revealed in a visual that confirms the indissoluble bond between innovative contents - expressed by a number of key words - and design.

But as words are not enough, the announcement points decidedly towards the new company website; it too is an essential part of a highly coordinated communication structure, introducing increased integration of all instruments.

So if you haven't visited us yet, come along to www.bft.it and return frequently to discover all the surprises that 2012 has in store for you, a year that promises lots of important new features.

In short, we really must say: “Stay Tuned to Us”!

    Technology

Living in the city like a park

The protection of urban areas according to Bft

Urban and metropolitan mobility, or rather "non mobility", has become a problem on a global scale. It afflicts public administrators who are unable to choose innovative methods for the control and management of movements - contrasting with the easier policy of blocking traffic altogether, which does not solve anything - and makes life impossible for people in the town, trapped between a set of lights and a roundabout, between shopping centres, massive traffic jams and non existent parking spaces.

According to an ACI (Italian Automobile Club) survey conducted in Rome and Milan in 2009, every motorist spends approximately 250 hours a year “trapped” in his or her vehicle in urban traffic queues and slowdowns, at a cost of up to 650 euros. The total cost is in the region of 40 billion euros a year.

Bft has been working for some time on the production of a model to support mobility management, that focusses attention on the protection of urban area, improves the quality of life and helps the environment, allowing everyone to enjoy living in the town as though it were a park.

To achieve these objectives, something must be done about traffic flows towards city centres, offering users a range of services that ensure a real alternative to cars.

The Bft system is based on an interconnectivity algorithm that allows the connection of different devices for detecting the state of the access points, which in turn are connected to the GPRS mobile network. The system knows the address (or rather the URL) of the display panel with which it communicates, generating a visual output that transmits fundamental information to the users who are approaching the city: traffic conditions, events (fairs, museum exhibitions, theatres, etc.), the availability of parking spaces, GPS guide to the nearest free car park.

The monitoring of access to the urban zones most susceptible to traffic pressure can be done with licence plate recognition devices, or with hands‑free devices such as the Bft Passy; this is a combined system comprising a one/two-way external antenna that activates a small dual technology transponder remote control fixed inside the vehicle. The transponder is the interface that communicates with the antenna and with the radio system of the access control points. The antenna, located in the vicinity of the automated device, "lights up" the surrounding area with a high-definition microwave signal of 2.40 gHz, with adjustable dimensions and sensitivity. When the small transponder enters the area covered by the antenna transmission it is activated and emits a wave on 433 mHz which is picked up by the Bft radio system of the device controlling the access point.

The vehicle recognition system can be interconnected with access control software such as Bft Securbase, which identifies the vehicle and differentiates between authorised (residents, police, etc.) and occasional users. The latter can be channelled into structured parking areas with systems such as Bft Espas or Maya. Within these areas, free or low-cost alternative mobility services may be available.

Lastly the need to protect our old city centres, with their wealth of historic buildings and monuments that are particularly vulnerable and sensitive to the impact of traffic, and to ensure rational access to the protected spaces (for historic pageants, concerts, occasional social events) can be solved by using bollards such as the Bft Stoppy that allow only authorised users to access the innermost areas.

In short: even when managing urban mobility it is always indispensable to keep "The Big Picture" in mind; that's why the key work can only be "integration".

    Giotto

    Giotto

Giotto is the new road barrier by Bft for collective use.
Suitable for condominium and industrial applications and for small car parks, it reinforces and completes the already wide range of Bft operators, allowing the company to be represented in all sectors of the market.
Giotto is an innovative product, designed to facilitate programming and installing operations thanks to its control unit located on the top and to a simplified menu.
Giotto is synonymous with practicality and above all with safety, ensured by the electronic limit switches and by the limitation of force managed with encoder technology.

    Sub bt

The Bft range of hydraulic operators has grown with the introduction of Sub bt, an operator for swing gates up to 800 kilos and 2.5 metres which combines Sub sturdiness with all the advantages of low voltage: maximum safety thanks to the D-Track system, virtual encoder and emergency batteries that allow use even during power cuts.
But that's not all. Sub bt has integrated mechanical stops - the only ones that can be adjusted from above - which guarantee an opening angle between 60° and 120°. It also has a convenient handle for easy installation in the foundation box.

    Gsm Receiver

With the new Gsm Receiver all you have to do is call from you cell phone – triband GSM/GPRS – to open or close the gate. And that's not all. This revolutionary control system communicates by SMS both its access status and the reaching of a predetermined number of manoeuvres, so that you can correctly plan any maintenance work.
Able to operate in self-regulating mode, the device checks that the telephone number used is among the 99 enabled to manage the gate and ensures integrated control of the system at no cost, because no reply to the call is necessary.

    Hide_sw

    Hide Sw

Hide Sw is the new integrated electromechanical operator for swing gates designed not to interfere with the aesthetic appearance of the product on which it is fitted.
Simple and quick to install, it allows a rapid electrical connection to the control unit and reduced assembly times, thanks to its non-reversibility which means that it is not necessary to use an electric lock.
Hide sw ensures optimum performance even in the presence of strong wind or in the most difficult weather conditions. Moreover, thanks to its torque of 375 Nm, to the integrated braking and blocking system and to the absolute encoder, it ensures movement in total safety.
Very low noise, integrated D-Track system and limit switches regulated directly by the control unit complete this product which satisfies the needs of gate manufacturers.

Batimat 2011: make way for products.

The numbers say it all: France has always been Bft's second "home" market.

So taking part in the Batimat - the most important European fair in the entire building sector, a kind of "building biennale" - is not only a commercial necessity for us, but something completely natural.

This year we link up ideally to the discussion we began at Equip'Baie 2010, completing it; there we presented our new company identity and new position, with special attention to the audience of installers.

Now what had been revealed as a concept becomes reality and is accomplished in a stand which is at one and the same time a real "communicating machine" and an ideal stage on which the products play the part of the leading actors.

Perfectly operating products, linked to one another to make up a complete and integrated "system": blinking lights, remote controls, hydraulic and electromechanical operators, automations for garages and industrial doors, bollards and barriers, parking systems, antiterrorism bollards: nearly all the Bft lines are presented to reply to the demands of a more varied audience, closely linked to the sector of infrastructures (designers, companies, public bodies and administrations...).

A range that you can "get your hands on" even at the dedicated info point where, thanks to the use of iPad stations, it is possible to learn more about the offer, looking through the informative material and using the Bft configuring device to compose the different systems in real time.

An open and hospitable stand, set out on two levels, which confirms the direction undertaken last year but which, at the same time, highlights the company's technological soul. A company that has been able to keep its promises and present innovative solutions on the market that simplify the life of the people who use them, but also of those that it chooses as its working partners every day.

Solutions ever more “tuned to you”.

    Bft steps into the arena

The story of Bft Spain began more than twenty years ago, when Bft automations were starting to be distributed and installed throughout the Iberian peninsula.

This story reached a turning point in 2006 when, in collaboration with the local distributor, the first Bft branch in the country was founded, a testing ground for the development of the company's international network and subsidiaries.

Things started to get interesting. Commercial successes followed so rapidly that the company decided to open two other branches - one near Madrid and the other in Galicia - to serve the northern and central areas of the country more easily.

Today the context in which Bft Spain has been working since 2009 needs no detailed explanations.

The difficult economic situation caused by the financial and property crisis does not support the company's commercial development. But it does not stop it either.

The team has continued to pursue its objectives with determination, succeeding in maintaining, and in some cases even gaining, precious shares of the market. A team spirit and harmony that have enabled Bft Spain to guarantee impeccable customer service and to overcome the difficulties without ever losing sight of the opportunities in the field of automations.

    Bft: to win the East

Two years old and the results are very hopeful: this was the reasoning behind the development of Bft Ru, active on the Eastern European market since May 2009.

In the past, the Russian territory was controlled through a dealer in Moscow; today Bft has decided to operate directly "on the spot" with a dedicated business unit.

The numbers speak clearly and confirm the decision to invest in this strategic market. With the turnover for 2010 almost 6 times that of the previous year, Bft Ru has taken the crown as the start-up with absolutely the highest growth record.

There are great opportunities for development and great challenges to face: the slow recovery from the economic crisis, the shortage of liquid assets that prolongs credit collection times, a business culture very different from its European counterpart, these are the aspects that the Bft team has to deal with every day.

A determined team, as is stressed by the team leader, Yury Lutay. “I've always thought of Bft as a brand that offers excellent products in terms of quality of offer and solutions, but it was only when I joined the company that I realized that in addition to the technology there's also a close-knit team of passionate, efficient, skilled individuals. The first aspect will help us to sell, but the second will help us to win!”
